In the free workbook, you will find a lot of helpful questions to get you started. Try to not get too into details in the early stages. Great interior design is rarely just one style, it is a mix of influences.

Start with the essentials

You should always start your decorating with the things that will make the biggest impact. I call these items the home decor essentials. They are the first things that you should invest in. The home decor essentials are:

  1. Area rugs and carpets
  2. Curtains
  3. Lamps and lightning
  4. Plants
  5. Artwork and wall art
  6. Decorative storage

Make moodboards

There are a lot of great ways to create beautiful and inspiring moodboards. A great place to search for inspiration is on Pinterest where you can create your own home decor board. If you, however, are more like me and like to craft your own moodboard, you can simply use the template provided in the home decor workbook.

A mood board will help you to remember and visualize the theme that you are going for. It is a great way to make sure that the different parts of your home decor won’t clash. You can include anything you want in your moodboard like fabrics and wallpapers.

Write down your measurements

This is the single most important aspect of getting on top of your home decor. Most people have a sense of their style and preferences, but when it comes to home decor but fail to remember the importance of proper planning. One of the most common issues is that you don’t have your measurements and colors with you when you go shopping. Sadly our memories don’t always server ur right might end up buying things that looked amazing in the store but looks completely misplaced once we actually bring it into your home decor. No matter how stylish furniture or decor you buy, it will look out of place if it is in the wrong size. I know that it is a really boring part of decorating, but it is totally worth the effort! Write down your measurements and you will never have to return an item to the store again.

Seattle for a few statement pieces

All great interiors have this rule in common, you should settle for a few impactful decor pieces and let your decor revolve around them. If you mix brings to many elements into your home decor it will feel unbalanced and chaotic. Be mindful of the things you have and invest in fewer pieces that you really love instead!

Keep digital copies of your plans

It’s important that you keep easily accessible copies of your measurements and moodboards. If you don’t bring them with you when you go shopping you can’t reap the rewards of all the hard work you have put in. A simple solution is to keep photos on your phone or on your Google drive for example. This way you are always prepared if you are out shopping and won’t risk buying something too big, small, or in clashing color.
