What influences my design style

What influences my design style

In this blog post, I want to talk about something that is very central to my creative business. Namely my design, or more specifically what influences my design style.

The purpose of this blog post is to let you in on my journey. It might still be early days for my creative business, but I can still shine some light on what inspires and influences my design.

Naturally, there are a bunch of things like motivation, available time and available resources that influence the results of my design. But here I am talking about what influences my design style.

If you are new here, you should check out my home decor and art print shop on Etsy, the SelectedCraftsStore. I also run the brand SelectedCrafts. Over time I have developed an esthetic that is very minimal, with lots of natural elements, like animals and flowers. That is what I want to write about today.

What influences my design style?

Most of us are blind to some things that truly influence us and I am probably influenced by a bunch of things that I am not even aware of. In this blog post, I will focus on the things that have a positive influence on my design. I suppose that most of these springs from my Swedish roots.

Growing up surrounded by the stunning northern nature has definitely made an imprint on me. I take every chance I get to spend time outdoors. In my design, I think this is very obvious in my many floral or nature-inspired designs.

Scandinavian tradition is also an aspect to my design, I love taking something really old with a lot of legacy and then try to make it a part of modern design. It is a fun and challenging task to try and balance the respect of traditions with the trends of today.

I believe that things that inspire me in my daily life, in most ways also influence my design. My life is influenced by intentional living and being close to nature and my loved ones. That shines through in my life as well as in my design.

All great design comes from providing function, great art, however, is something different entirely. I would not think so highly of myself as to call myself an artist, I prefer to call myself “a designer with ambition”. I feel confident when it comes to design because I have both studied design, worked with design. Calling myself a designer comes more naturally then calling myself an artist for some reason. I also sometimes refer to SelectedCrafts as my creative business.

I find growth very inspirational, I want to learn how to do things really well. Once I do, I want to move on to the next challenge. There is a lot of beauty in growing. I constantly remind myself that perfecting a skill, also is a kind of growth. There needs to be a good balance between the new and old in any creatives life.

To sum it up, I am very inspired by living, growing and challenging myself. And my design style has a lot of influences from modern design, nature, old tradititions.

Do you see any obvious influences in my design style? Then tell me, and let me know what inspires you! Nature, Fiction, Love? What ever it is leave me a comment down below.
